Alan Merchant, CEO & Co-Founder

With 30 years of leadership experience in the health care industry, Alan Merchant has a unique understanding of health benefit administration systems. Working for organizations ranging from local hospital systems to the largest U.S. health insurer, Mr. Merchant has been instrumental in architecting, building and implementing solutions that support diverse administrative functions from care delivery to claims payment. This background gives him an exceptional perspective in creating solutions that address clients’ technical as well as operational needs.

Mr. Merchant is best known for his work over the past decade as system and operational architect of the CDH platform at Lumenos, a recognized pioneer of CDH plans. His unique skills helped translate a strategic vision for CDH into an operational and technical success. What’s more, his leadership helped Lumenos compete head-to-head with major national carriers, and attract a number of Fortune 500 companies as clients.

After WellPoint acquired Lumenos in 2005 (primarily for its technology platform), Mr. Merchant provided vital leadership in the integration of the Lumenos platform into a variety of WellPoint’s enterprise solutions, enabling the organization and its subsidiaries to design and sell complex CDH products. Earlier in his career, Mr. Merchant worked as an independent consultant to multiple healthcare organizations and served in management positions at ValueOptions, Inc., a leading behavioral health MCO, Dowty Aviation Services, a subsidiary of General Electric, Atlantic City Medical Center, and Shore Memorial Hospital.

Tom Brady, Chief Marketing Officer

Tom Brady has over 15 years of product development experience, including the past decade working in the healthcare industry. He began his career in the healthcare field as an early and critical contributor to the success of Lumenos, a recognized leader in the CDH movement. As Vice President of Business Integration for Lumenos, one of his important contributions was directing the launch of the Lumenos HSA product, an early leader in integrated solutions for national employers.

When WellPoint, the nation’s largest health insurer, acquired Lumenos in 2005, Mr. Brady joined as WellPoint’s Staff Vice President of Innovation. While there, he led several successful enterprise initiatives, including the first joint enterprise project to adapt a Lumenos product for Anthem’s National Account Business, a project that required coordinating product marketing, operations, IT, finance, compliance and underwriting functions. During the same period, he oversaw ongoing HSA product development and served as CDH subject matter expert for Arcus, WellPoint’s initiative to launch a bank subsidiary.

Immediately prior to accepting a leadership role at Acero Health Technologies, Mr. Brady worked as an independent business consultant. One of his most recent engagements was with a large national managed care organization, and involved identifying and developing product opportunities related to the 2010 Affordable Care Act. In addition to his healthcare experience, he has worked to develop new products and refine corporate sales strategies for several publishing entities, including Congressional Quarterly.
